Disney Staniforth

Disney Staniforth (1 December 1674 - 18 January 1739) of Firbeck, was an English Nonconformist landowner and inventor. Disney was the son of Jonathan Staniforth and Mary Disney. His uncle, Daniel Disney, was another notable landowner, and was the father of clergyman John Disney. Disney inherited Firbeck Hall from his father. The Staniforths of Rotherham were Puritans during the English Civil War, and were known staunch Nonconformists. During the 1730s, Disney had a legal dispute with Joseph Foljambe after being sold the rights to the Rotherham plough. Following this issue he appears to have lived a reclusive life. Disney married Mary Skinner and had three daughters, Amelia, Henrietta and Mary, and a son Jonathan. Jonathan inherited the hall, but none of them married or had offspring. Disney died on 18 January 1739. |
