Discovery Community College is a private college originally founded in Campbell River, British Columbia in 1996. The college has 8 total campuses, including: Courtenay, Kelowna, Maple Ridge, Nanaimo, Prince George, Surrey, and Williams Lake. In March 2011, the college inaugurated its chairside dental assistant program. Controversy In 2019, Discovery Community College was found by British Columbia’s Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) to have engaged in "false or misleading" advertising of its Police Foundations program. The college had promoted the $20,000 course as a pathway to a career in law enforcement, despite graduates receiving only a basic security certificate available elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. The province’s tuition protection fund also ruled that at least one student had indeed been misled.<ref name=":0" /> |
