Stammers was attending after-school tuition for Mathemathics and Science. Forrest himself operates a blog. One of his blogs stated that his love for Stammers was like it had "hit him like heroin". A child protection expert wrote to Education Secretary Michael Gove expressing the concerns over the schools policy on protection.
Disappearance
At 4:30pm on 20 September, Stammers phoned her mother, and asked whether she would be allowed to stay overnight at a friend's house. Her mother agreed and Stammers picked up her dinner money. Stammers would later return to her home and left earlier the next day. The following morning, Wilson received a text message saying Stammers was not attending her classes. Instead, Stammers had travelled with Forrest to the Port of Dover to board a ferry to France. The couple boarded the ferry at 9:20pm in Forrest's black Ford Fiesta.

On 24 September, Stammers mother made an emotional press conference asking her to return home. French police announced an "all motorways" alert with officers searching for the car. Forrest's father is also due to make an appeal to his son to return home. A European Arrest Warrant was sent for the arrest of Forrest for the offence of child aduction. The case is due to feature in an episode of Crimewatch on 27 September.
