Dieter Rossi Dieter Rossi, born 22 March 1940 is an Austrian painter living in England. He is known for his political paintings depicting the horrors of totalitarianism, genocide and terrorist attacks: NineEleven, Darfur, Bergen Belsen, Beirut and others. He calls his work “Art of Extremes” after Hobsbawms book “The age of Extremes” because of his widely differing subjects covering many human situations and emotions, beautiful and horrific, gentle and harrowing. His website www.rossi.co.uk shows a small selection of his total work (around 170 oil painting and 400 water colours and drawing) including his overpainted Cibachrome photographs and children’s books. He graduated at the Vienna Academy of Art in 1965, having also spent one year (1962 to 1963) studying photography at the Maryland Institute in Baltimore, USA For 1 1/2 years (September 1999 to February 2001) he showed his major works in his own gallery “The Rossi Gallery” in Brick Lane, in London’s East End. The titles of the shows summarise the various subjects of Rossi’s work: “Art of Extremes”, “Fighters”, “Sex” and “The Thousand Year Reich”. He also exhibited his over painted Cibachrome photographs and his watercolour illustrations for his children’s books. He now lives in Dorset. Web Site: www.rossi.co.uk
