Dick Cardinal

Richard "Dick" Cardinal (born 1927 or 1930) is an amateur and catch-style wrestler who is a head trainer in the art of scientific wrestling.
Wrestling career
Dick Cardinal started his wrestling career when he was in school. He went on to become an accomplished amateur wrestler and won a medal at the Pacific Northwest Wrestling Championships. It was at the Pacific Northwest Wrestling Championships that he met August Sepp, an Estonian catch wrestling champion. It was Sepp who introduced Cardinal to catch-as-catch-can wrestling which was featured in carnivals throughout the country in the early and mid twentieth century. Cardinal became a well-known catch-as-catch-can wrestler in the Pacific Northwest.
Later years
Cardinal has become a coach for both traditional amateur-style wrestling and the carnival-style catch-as-catch-can wrestling. He has worked with wrestlers, submission grapplers, and mixed martial arts fighters. He is friends with legendary Japanese professional wrestler Yoshiaki Fujiwara, who is also considered to be a master in the art of submission grappling from being under the tutelage of one of the most well-known catch wrestlers of all time, Karl Gotch.
Together, Cardinal and Fujiwara are the two head trainers for Scientific Wrestling. They tour around the country, demonstrating their wrestling and submission grappling skills in seminars for aspiring wrestlers and MMA fighters.
