The Devil Mountain Improv League is a student organization with the purpose of training high school students in the art of improvisational theater, developing their talents in a friendly and safe environment, and creating an entertaining experience for a high school audience. The Devil Mountain Improv League membership is open to all high school students at participating campuses; potential performers are required to audition.
History
The Devil Mountain Improv League was established in 1996. The original captains met cracking jokes behind the scenes of a regional theater production of Bye Bye Birdie. The Devil Mountain Improv League was designed to provide a format for high school students from different campuses in the Mount Diablo Unified School District to perform together. It has grown since its inception, far outreaching its initial design.
The title of Devil Mountain Improv League Champion seems to hold some weight. However, improvisational performers understand that the title of champion is not the goal of participation in the league. The highest accomplishment is achieved by the troupe that is the most collaborative, understanding and perpetuating the mock-competitive environment of head-to-head improvisation, creating alluring and entertaining performances that audiences will want to return to again and again.
