Derrick Nelson Shaw

Derrick N. Shaw is an officer in the United States Army Band field. He assumed command of The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Band in June of 2008 . Prior to his arrival, he served as the Commander of Student Company at the U.S. Army School of Music. Captain Shaw also served as Associate Bandmaster of the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in Washington, D.C., where he was director of the U.S. Army Ceremonial Band, the Herald Trumpets, and the Army Chorale. His initial assignment was service as the Executive Officer and Associate Conductor of the Army Ground Forces Band, Fort McPherson, Georgia.

Captain Shaw led groups in numerous national-level notable events such as the 55th Presidential Inaugural Ceremony, Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, Florida, State Arrival Ceremonies and other significant events at The White House, ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Ceremony, and in numerous other high-level military and civilian events around the nation. He was appointed as Officer-In-Charge of music planning and coordination for the State Funeral of President Ronald W. Reagan in 2004.
