Derek Missimo

Derek Missimo (born January 20, 1969), commonly known as D, is a former American player who played professionally from 1991-1992 in the United States. Missimo is currently one of the founding partners of the Fast Casual Experts, LLC, a Dallas based restaurant portfolio group that specializes in non-traditional restaurant lease opportunities.
Youth/High School
Derek Missimo was a two time Parade & NSCAA All-American, Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star Telegram Player of the Year at Trinity High School in Euless, Texas. Missimo was awarded a Proclamation for being an “American Ambassador” from the City of Bedford, Texas on January 28, 1986 by representing the United States Youth National Team in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Final in China PR and the U-19 Valentin A. Granatkin Memorial International Youth Football Championship in the Soviet Union. Upon high school graduation, Missimo was a contributor for the USA team in the Trinidad and Tobago CONCACAF Qualification Tournament that eventually advanced to the 1989 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
College
As a student/athlete for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Missimo was the all time points leader. His goals and assists totaled 138 point. He scored 56 goals in his college career. Missimo was selected All-ACC and All-South multiples times playing under the legendary coach Anson Dorrance. In 1987, Missimo was selected to Soccer America’s All Freshmen Team and was the MVP in the inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament as a key member of North Carolina’s first ACC Championship team that went onto the 1987 NCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer Championship. Missimo led Carolina in scoring four consecutive years and the Atlantic Coast Conference for the 1988 and 1989 seasons. In doing so, Missimo was the first and only one of two UNC men’s soccer letterman to do so in the 67 year history of the program placing him as one of the top scorers in the history of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Missimo highest achievement during his collegiate years was being the captain of Carolina’s NCAA tournament team and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the university in the fall of 1991.
Professional
On February 13, 1991, Missimo was selected by the Dallas Sidekicks of the Major Indoor Soccer League where he played for one season. Missimo retired from the game to pursue a graduate degree from Texas Christian University, which he received in 1993.
International
Missimo played for the United States national futsal team at the 1998 Rio de Janeiro Futsal Tournament.
Beyond Sports
Derek Missimo is one of the founding partners of Fast Casual Experts serves the group as the Managing Partner of Development. Missimo is married to his wife Susan and has two daughters.
