In 2008, Del McCoury started DelFest, an annual bluegrass festival in Cumberland, Maryland, held at the Allegany County Fairgrounds

3000 to 4000 people attended the first DelFest.

2009
On the second day of the festival (May 23), a sudden hail storm struck during the Sam Bush set, stopping the music on the main stage and causing some severe damage to tents and shelters, and a few minor injuries. Music resumed at the multipurpose stage with Old Crow Medicine Show, and late at night on the main stage with Leftover Salmon.
