Death of Franco Garcia

Franco Garcia, a student at Boston College and resident of West Newton, Massachusetts, went missing early in the morning on February 22, 2012, after a night out with friends at Mary Ann's bar in the Cleveland Circle area of Brighton, a Boston neighborhood. His body was found in Chestnut Hill Reservoir six weeks later, on April 11. The case remains under investigation.
Disappearance
Franco Garcia was last seen at Mary Ann's bar at approximately 12:15 am on February 22, 2012. Footage from an ATM security camera released on March 4 place him across the street from the bar at 12:18 am, walking near the intersection of Beacon Street and Chestnut Hill Avenue. He was last seen wearing a blue and white striped button-down shirt, jeans, and glasses. The police were able to trace a ping to his cell phone that indicates it was still in the area of the Chestnut Hill Reservoir at 1:17 am.
Investigation
On February 26, police scanned the surface of the reservoir with a helicopter with no results. Over the next three days, state police searched the reservoir with dive teams and side-scan sonar, again without result. K-9 teams also searched the surrounding areas and failed to turn up any evidence. Justin Billard, a private investigator, began assisting with the investigation at the beginning of March.
Social media efforts
Friends and family of Franco Garcia began using social media to raise awareness of his disappearance on February 24, with the creation of a Facebook group. They also began a campaign on Twitter under the username @FindFranco, using the #FindFranco hashtag. A number of celebrities have joined in on the effort, including Bruce Springsteen, who posted the story on his official Twitter account and Facebook page. His friends also began a fund on WePay to raise money for the Garcia family and contribute to costs incurred in the search.
Discovery of Body
On April 11, 2012, a body was discovered in the Chestnut Hill reservoir. The Massachusetts District Attorney's office confirmed that the body appeared to be that of Franco Garcia. The next day it was confirmed that it was indeed his body.
