Dead.Winter is a zombie fantasy webcomic created by S. Dave Shabet. This take on the Zombie Apocalypse genre of storytelling is a mixture of Action, Black Comedy and Drama which frequently focuses more on the characters than on the Zombie infestation.
Storyline
Lizzie Cooper is a generally peaceful university graduate who had intended to become a poet, however she wound up living in a tiny flat above her unpleasant landlady with her boyfriend whilst working as a waitress in an unpleasant diner where she is regularly mistreated by her employer. Lizzie's mother's philosophy of turning the other cheek has rendered her unwilling to demand better treatment from the diner's owner, Frank.
Black Monday Blues is a hit-man, professionally respected in the business, who finds himself being pressured into taking part in a game between rich businessmen. Each of these rich individuals hires several hit-men (no hit-women have been seen thus far) and then sets them the task of exterminating the others. Each player has a dollar value which accumulates as they erase targets until the last one standing claims the accumulated funds.
One day a seeming Hobo comes into Frank's diner and bites Frank's 'Nam buddy HiJack on the arm. Lizzie gives HiJack a ride to hospital and then heads home. At this time we can see indications of something occurring in the comic universe but the characters are unaware of the trouble brewing.
Characters
Elizabeth Rose (Lizzie) Cooper: Poet, overworked waitress, pacifist, and wife-to-be. Lizzie cares deeply about the environment- and has done her part to help save it in a retrospectively odd manner, she enjoys midnight showers, and she loves her cat, Mr. Cuddles. She's also got a case of bad luck, which persists relentlessly, until it comes to a head in the form of a near-fatal traffic accident. She came away from this collision in the care of strangers; with cuts, bruises, and a cracked rib; in addition to three days time unaccounted for. Lizzie is currently hopped up on codeine. Black Monday Blues: Little is known about the man called Black Monday Blues. What few things are certain can be counted on one hand: He's not a very well-liked man, he smokes too much, and he can't go ten words without swearing. Monday is also a fan of fancy sunglasses and Rudy Ray Moore films. Monday has a knack for improvisation, and despite his itchy trigger fingers and cold disposition, the plight of helpless young girls have shown him to have some moral code directing his hands. This, however, doesn't keep people from saying he's got a permanent case of the mondays. Which he most certainly seems to have. Birthplace: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Blood Type: O
Alice Vasilikos: Alice worked as a nurse in the hospital police officer Jack was delivered to, and was all ready to punch out and go home when the cops rolled up outside. She tries to wear a smile and lighten the mood by her patients' bedsides, but death is something she has a hard time dealing with. She's Lizzie's saving grace of sorts, spotting and snatching her from death's grip. Despite the unpleasant circumstances of their meeting, Liz and Alice have grown to become close friends in the day they've known one another. Birthplace: Albany, New York. Blood Type: AB
Lou Panzetti: Crude, gassy and loud, Lou the Plumber is hardly one for social grace. Beneath his repulsive and fart-laden exterior, however, lies a kind heart and a wealth of information. Lou is an amateur history buff, a big fan of Roman architecture and an adept handyman. He swings a mean wrench, too. Birthplace: Brooklyn, New York. Blood Type: O
