David Burke is a former Canadian politician, who served as the interim leader of the Prince Edward Island New Democratic Party in 1982 and 1983. He took over the leadership following the resignation of Douglas Murray; a leadership convention was planned for fall 1982, but the issuance of writs for the 1982 provincial election forced the postponement of the convention until 1983. He led the party in the election campaign, in which the party fielded just three candidates provincewide and garnered just 0.5 per cent of the popular vote. Burke subsequently ran as the federal New Democratic Party's candidate in Hillsborough in the 1984 federal election, but was not elected. |
