Dave G. Dotterer

David G. Dotterrer is an American politician and Republican candidate for Oregon State Senate in the 3rd Senate District.
He was born in Everett, Washington and grew up in Eugene, Oregon. In 1973 he graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Business Administration and received his commission in the United States Marine Corps through the ROTC program.
Military background
Upon graduation from The Basic School, Dotterrer attended U.S. Army Ranger School from February to April 1974. He then reported to the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan where he served as rifle platoon commander. He participated in Operation FREQUENT WIND, the evacuation of Saigon.
In 1975 and 1980, Dotterrer served as a platoon commander and as the adjutant, staff platoon commander for a student company and attended Amphibious Warfare School.

Dotterrer also attended the U.S. Army Command and Staff College, earning a Masters of Military Arts and Science in Military History upon graduation. He then reported to the Combined Forces Command and United States Forces, Korea in Seoul, where he served through July 1989 as the Amphibious Operations Officer.
Dotterrer was next assigned to Headquarters, Marine Corps in Washington, D.C. from 1989 until 1992 as a Strategic Plans Officer in the Plans Division of the Plans, Policies and Operations Department. From August 1992 until June 1993, he attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island where he earned a Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.
Dotterrer reported to the Command Element, I Marine Expeditionary Force in July 1993 and served as the Future Operations Officer, G-3 Division. From June 1994 to June 1995 he served as the Commanding Officer of 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company. In July 1995 he reported to the Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., this time as Commanding Officer and Director of the Marine Corps Institute.
In July 1997 Dotterrer was assigned again to the Plans, Policies and Operations (PP&O) Department of Headquarters, Marine Corps. In January 1998 he was assigned as the Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy where he served until March 1999.

Dotterrer retired in January 2001 with over 27 years of service as a Marine and currently resides in Ashland, Oregon.
Professional experience
Since retirement from the military with the rank of Colonel, Dotterrer has consulted with Science Applications International Corporation, the largest employee-owned research and engineering company in the United States. SAIC solves complex technical problems in national security, homeland security, energy, the environment, space, telecommunications, health care, and logistics.
Community Service
Dotterrer has served on the Ashland City Planning Commission, the Jackson County Veteran’s Advisory Committee, the National Board of Directors of the Young Marine Program, and served on the Rotary Club Board.
Personal
Dotterrer is married to the former Kerry Roberts of Ashland, Oregon. They have two children, Stephanie, a teacher in Beaverton and Charles, a Marine lieutenant currently serving in Afghanistan.
