Early Life and Family Background
Kurt Wahl was the Son of Julius Wahl, and his wife, Eugénie Gabriele (née Andt).
Career
At the Age of 17 he started himself in the fourth Generation of his Family the Tradition of becoming a Theatre Actor and had his first Stage decoration in the Genre as "youthfull Lover". There were followed Stage Performances / Permanent Employments as Theatre Actor and Director at the Theatres of Kaiserslautern, Breslau, Basel and Flensburg, before he was called to the Position as Theatre Actor and Director at the State Theatre Coburg (Landestheater Coburg) in 1937.
The State Theatre of Coburg (Landestheater Coburg) was closed by the Nazi -German authorities in 1944 (due to World War II); Wahl was drafted to German Wehrmacht (Deutshe Wehrmacht) war service. After being released of Allied US -American War Captivity in Fürth, (April -August 1945), he attempted to return into his old duties in his position at the State Theatre of Coburg (Landestheater Coburg); but was subjected to the Vocational Prohibition (in Line with the Policy of De-Nazification) Policy of the Allied Military Occupation Powers of Germany (1945-1949). Due to be barred by the Allied Powers Vocational Prohibition Policy to be State -Employed, he founded and Directed in his turn 1947/1948 his own Private Theatre "Kommödie der Zeit" ("Commedy of this Times") in the "Kleinen Hofbräusaal" in Coburg, and upon successful approved Allied De-Nazification -Process, was able to return once again in August 1949 to the State Theatre Coburg, where he had his first Stage appearance after the Opening of the Season as "Mephisto" in Goethe´s Faust I. Later he played the Roles of the "Theatre Director Striese" in "Rape of the Sabine Women" ("Der Raub der Sabinerinnen"), Comedy by Franz von Schönthan and in the Role of "Philippe I. d´Orléans " in the Play "Lieselott" by the author Künnecke.
Head of Artistic Company Office (1950) and appointed Administrative Director and Vice Theatre Director of the State Theatre of Coburg (1951-1968)
In 1950 he became the Head of the new Founded "artistic company office " (Künstlerisches Betriebsbüro) at the State Director of Coburg (Landestheater Coburg) and was also continuously active as Theatre Actor and Stage Director. After the sudden, unexpected death of Oskar Grambs (then Administrative Sirector and Vice Theatre Director )in 1951, he took over the duties of Grambs as an Administrative Director. He was subsequently and formally appointed by the First Mayor of Coburg, Dr. Walter Langner (Free Democratic Party of Germany/ FDP Party) to the Position of Administrative Director (Verwaltungsdirektor), Vice- Theatre Director (Stellvertretender Intendant), and (continued) Head of the Artistic Company Office (Künstlerisches Betriebsbüro) of the State Theatre of Coburg (Landestheater Coburg). From the moment of his appointment on, he was officially responsible for all the matters of coodrination of artistic, technical and economical matters of the State Theatre of Coburg (including the Laydown of the Annual Budget and ACcounts and Reporting and laying down the Accounts and Budget Estimates for Debate Approval to the elected Municipal Council of Coburg Municipality and the Ministry of Culture and Education of the Free State of Bavaria in Munich as State Government Body of technical and State Public Service Supervision body of the Government of the Free State of Bavaria ). Among his great and significant Achievements during his Term in Office was the Invention of a " Theatre Audience Shuttle Service " , reaching up to a Radius of 100 km around Coburg Municiality, in order to ompensate for the Loss of the former frequent Audience of the State Theatre of Coburg from the south Thuringia Region (unable to travel further from South Thuringia to Coburg because of the inner -German Demarcation Line and subsequent continued Travel Prohibition for the East Germany Inhabitants by the Soviet Allied Occupation Powers and the new Government of the 1949 established German Democratic Republic /GDR).
Kurt Wahl retired officially from Public Service and his duties at the end of 1968 (reaching the Public Service Retirement Pension Age of 65 years). After all, he exercised public Duties at the State Theatre of Coburg (Landestheater Coburg) over a Period of 31 years.
Kurt Wahl was Freemason, as such "Senior Worshipful Master" (Altmeister) in the Lodge "Zur Fränkischen Krone" (Crown of Franconia) in Coburg, 3 years "Senior District Master" (Altdistriktmeister) of the District Lodge of Bavaria and Senior -distributed "State Grand Master"( Landesgrossmeister)- (1967/1968 and 1969/1970), as well as orderly ordained Member of the Lodge Assiciation VGLvD.
Wahl was a Member of the Free Democratic Party and a Friend of Thomas Dehler, who was the Federal Republic of Germany ´s first Minister of Justice. Wahl was also a close Friend of his distant Cousin Ferdinand I of Bulgaria and of the King´s General-Adjutant during his post Abdication Exile Years in Coburg (1918-1948), General Peter Gantchew, former Chief of the royal Bulgarian General Staff (until 1918).
He was already severely ill before his demise.
Private Life, Family and Descendants
Controversial Ennoblement and (Bulgarian) Countship, 1942
On the Occasion of his second Marriage, Kurt Wahl was ennobled as "Kurt von Wahl-Walther, 1st Graf Trenewan, Freiherr von Wahl-Walther" by H.M. Ferdinand I of Bulgaria , Augusta- Palais, Coburg, 30.08.1942 and was also congratulated ina second Letter by the Tsar of Bulgaria General-Adjutant, General Peter Gantchev, who was a close personal Friend of Kurt Wahl.
He also further continued to address Kurt Wahl then as "Graf Trenewan" (Count Trenewan) until his death in 1948.
The Considerations stated in the Tsar´s Marginal Note affirming the Constitutive Ennoblement counted among other Facts the Relationship of the new Wife of Kurt Wahl to the Doroshenko Family (The Mother of Irene Nora née Neubauer, Dora Martha Neubauer née Wehner, was the elder sister of Elsa Charlotte Doroshenko, née Wehner,*Dresden, 1897-Rostov,Russia 1921 who married in 1920 in Dresden the Russian Officer and War Prisoner Matvay Doroshenko, *Rostov, 1891-Rostov, 1921, executed, both Sisters being the Daughters of the late Ernst Otto Wehner and his wife Emma Anna Wehner, née Rost, daughter of the late Carl Gottlieb Rost, Beer Brewing Master in Schönfeldt , Meissen and his wife Auguste Amalie Emilie Rost, née Neumann, From Zielenzig / , daughter of Friedrich Emmanuel Neumann, Textile Factory Owner in Russia and his Wife Friederike Amalie Neumann, née Brückner, native of /Zielenzig , thus making Irene Nora Neubauer the Niece of a late former Russian Nobleman (Dworjanin) and the lineal direct maternal Descent of Kurt Wahl from William the Conqueror and via another direct maternal female Line of Descent from Robert, Count of Mortain, 2nd Earl of Cornwall via the french de Meaux (descendants of Dénis de Meaux married to Marie de Châtillon, Marriage of Jean Chastelain, 1648-1707 to Madeleine de Meaux, 1663-1697, daughter of François de Meaux, juge and Prévost ordinaire á la Châtellanerie d´Hirson and his Wife Nicole Petit), Chastelain de Verly [descendants of Thiebault Chastelain, notaire Royale a Renwez, seigneur de Montlieu, d´Amberval et d´Hongreau, 1535-1623, married to Marie Anne d´Arragon, via his son Jean Chastelain, Notaire Royale, Bailli, recouvreur du marquisat de Montcornet, Married to Marie Claude de Havey, his son in turn Jean Chastelain (+ Hirson, 1676), merchant (marchand) in Renwez, married to Antoinette Chrétien, and his son in turn, Jean Chastelain (*Renwez,1648; + Hirson, 1707), married to the noble demoiselle Madeleine de Meaux (1663-1697) their son Louis Antoine Chastelain (*Hirson, 1695; + Hirson, 1757), Advocat en Parlement, Bailli de Signy -le Petit et autres liens, and his wife Génevieve Malherbe, to their son Jean Alexandre Chastelain de Verly (* Hirson, 1733; Sarreguemines, 1792), "advocat en Parlement de France et de Lorraine, Conseilleur du Roi, son procureur en la maîtrise des eaux et des forrèts, domicilié a Sarreguemines" and his wife Marie Jeanne Catherine Hourdel du Verget (1724-1802), daughter of Jean Baptiste Hourdel du Verget, notaire Royale and his wife Marie Pavy, daughter of Nicolas Pavy, sieur du Pivron, and their son in turn Jean Louis Antoine Alexandre Chastelain de Verly, created Madrid, Spain, 21.12.1808 1st "chévalier Chastelain-Deverly et d´Empire Français" by Napoléon I , Emperor of the French, chévalier (Knight) (1804) and Officier (Officer) of the French Legion of Honour (1814) by Napoléon I, Emperor of the French , King of Italy and chévalier (Knight), 1815 of the Order of Saint-Louis (Ordre Royale et Militaire de Saint-Louis), by King Louis XVIII of France and Navarre, via his daughter in turn (of his 1818 second Marriage to Marie Françoise Eugénie née Lajonquiére, 1798-1878) Eugénie Auguste Chuquet de Montigny née Chastelain de Verly (1819-1890), married to Alphonse Charles Henri Chuquet de Montigny (1812-1899) and their daughter in turn, Lina Gabrielle Emilie Andt, widowed Madame Léopold Meyer (married 1865-1875 to Meyer), née Chuquet de Montigny (*Strasbourg,1845; + La Wantzenau, 1897), married secondly in 1880 to Clément Andt (*La Wantzenau, 1853; + Lunéville,1917), who were in turn the parents of Eugénie Gabriele Wahl (née Andt), (*La Wantzenau, 1881; + Krefeld, 1958), married subsequently in 1904 to Julius Wahl (-Walther) who were in turn the Parents of Kurt Wahl (Kurt v. Wahl-Walther, Graf Trenewan, Freiherr v. Wahl-Walther since 1942 in the defunct former Kingdom of Bulgaria, 1908-1946), who was listed in the Domesday Book (1088 A.D.) as holder of "Chenowen" (Trenewan), lieged "to Thurstin , from Count of Mortain". Another Consideration might be the indirect Link via the (illegitimate - lineage) descent of Kurt Wahl from Prince Karl Egon IV. of Fürstenberg, 1852-1896,(via the Prince´s Liaison with the unmarried Actress and Sage Ursula Crescenzia Mathilde Wahl "genannt Walther, 1859-1942) who was in turn, via His mother, Princess Elisabeth Henriette Reuss of Greiz (elder Line), a lineal direct cognatic descendant of King George II (1683-1760)- (via his daughterAnne, Princess Royal (1709-1759), married toWilliam IV, Prince of Orange , first hereditary Stadholder of the United Netherlands , their daughter,Princess Carolina of Orange-Nassau (1743-1787), married to Charles Christian, Prince of Nassau-Weilburg (1735-1788) and their daughter in turn Wilhelmine Luise of Nassau -Weilburg (1765-1837), married in turn to Heinrich XIII, Prince Reuss of Greiz (1747-1817) and their son in turn, Heinrich XIX, Prince Reuss of Greiz,(1790-1836) married to Princess Gasparine de Rohan-Rochefort, who were in turn the parents of Princess Elisabeth Henriette Reuss of Greiz, (1824-1861) married to Prince Karl Egon II. of Fürstenberg (1830-1892), both the Parents of Prince Karl Egon IV. zu Fürstenberg.)
The Ennoblement had no affect or any entry in subsequent German Civil Documents , as birth entries and certificates or marriage and death registers, as it was in Contravention to Article 114, Section 3 of the Constitution of Weimar (11.08.1919) , which stipulates " All Privileges of Birth or Estate are abolished. Titles of Nobility continue to pertain only as legal Parts of the Surname and may not be granted further on". Also the Weimar Constitution forbade all Germans, to accept Orders or Titles from foreign States and Governments (or Sovereigns).
As it is not a former German Title of Nobility, conferred prior to the Adaptation of the Weimar Constuitution (1919) by a Sovereign in the German Empire (1875-1918) or the North German Confederation (1867-1871), The German Confederation (1814-1866) or the Holy Roman Empire (800/962- 1806), the former (Bulgarian) Title is neither listed in the "Almanach de Gotha" (Gothaisches Genealogisches Taschenbuch der Gräflichen Häuser, published from 1763-1944), "GhdA" (Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels- Gräfliche Häuser, published 1951-2015 Edited by the Association of the German Nobility Associations private Club and it´s private German Nobility Archive), or " GhdA -Adelslexikon" (new Ennoblements Register 1850-1918). Kurt Wahl has also never been a Member of the (Private Club -not Stately-Sovereign Body) German Nobility Association (Vereinigung der Deutschen Adelsverbände) or in any of his subsected (Private Club-not Stately Sovereign Body) Regional Nobility Associations (Private Clubs, Not fficial Sovereign State Bodies).
The (Bulgarian) Title Grant is indicated and documented and the Original 1942 Patent is Preserved in the (Private) Trenewan-Archive and indicated in the State Archive of Bavaria (Coburg Branch).
