Cubbie occurrence

Loosely defined as; occurrences to the Chicago Cubs (MLB) or members of their team and/or staff that are highly irregular or unlikely. Lou Pinella coined this term in the 2008 MLB season.

EXAMPLES

Such occurrences are not only unlikely, but most of them comical. This is a list from just this season (2008) alone;

Felix Pie, opening day Center Fielder for the Cubs, missed several days of Spring Training with a twisted testicle. Ouch.

Cubs relief Pitcher Jose Ascanio missed two days of Spring Training after being beaten up by a bum outside a Circle K who asked him for money, which Ascanio refused to give. "It is better to give...."

Alfonso Soriano, Cubs Left Fielder, has a psychological or superstitious need to make a small hop before catching fly balls in the outfield. Doing so in April, he managed - somehow - to suffer a calf injury. How???

Kosuke Fukudome, the high priced Japanese baseball player the Cubs had to bid for rights to sign to an MLB contract, was tearing it up in April...before he hit the cover of Sport Illustrated. Since, he's been a shadow of his former self. And I thought that curse was specific to football and Madden...

Cubs closer Kerry Wood lands on the Disabled List (DL) for a blister on his finger. I mean, come on...

Chad Guadin, relief pitcher, slipped off a curb and fell into a dumpster, injuring his low back. Mr. Gaudin, please remain on the sidewalk in the future.

Cubs Manager Lou Pinella and Assitant Coach Matt Sinato decided to drive to Cincinnati where the Cubs were to play the Reds. They missed their exit, and would up almost in Cleveland before they bought a map, turned around, and found Cincy. My, oh my.

Hurricane Ike. Well, it is a natural occurrence, a hurricane, but to manage to hit the exact place the Cubs were supposed to play their series with Houston seems more than just coincidence. It remains to be seen though if this will have a positive or negative effect on the Cubs.
