Criticism of Star Trek

The criticism of Star Trek is based around the fact that Gene Roddenberry's prediction of 23rd century life is in ideological opposition to the capitalism found in 21st century life. Roddenberry himself was against capitalism; which made him depict the Star Trek universe as anti-capitalist.
Summary
The Star Trek universe is based around the United Federation of Planets; which operated with a government system similar to Marxist-Leninism. Ordinary citizens are not allowed to have ownership rights over real estate and land. There is no poverty, no recessions, no economic depressions, not even a stock market of any kind. All government income is spent on starships for science and exploration instead of drugs for an aging population and geology for oil.<ref name="postmodernvillage"/>
