Cristina Materon

Maria Cristina Reyes is a fine artist, interior designer, and architect. She was born in Cali, Colombia to Antionio José Reyes and Yolanda Solarte. Since childhood she has had an innate inclination towards art and design. Cristina is an experienced artist with extensive knowledge in art techniques including oil painting, acrylic painting, pen and ink, airbrush, silkscreening, collage, pencil and charcoal drawing and digital imaging manipulation. She is also an experienced graphic artist and an owner of a web design company. Cristina is currently working on her works of art and discovering her own artistic style, as well as inspiring the young population about the importance of expression through art.
Artistic style
Christina is interested in creating abstract artwork that reflects her love for nature and color. She is currently developing a creative process that is experimental. Her approach is to explore the boundaries between realism and abstraction, as well as to manipulate vibrant colors. The use of light gives her art a dramatic air and a touch of mystery. Cubist tones are apparent in her work, with a particular emphasis on linearity and geometry. She captures the abstract with edges and angles. Other influences in her style include her travels and experiences abroad, which she have translated onto the canvas.
Education and experience
While she lived in Colombia, from 1969 to 1972, she studied architecture in the Universidad del Valle. She worked as an architectural draftsperson in Cali, in the Mejia and Tejada company. Afterwards, she moved to Sydney, Australia to work as an architect, where she designed various buildings and architectural projects. to study interior design; she was certified as an interior decorator in 1977. Later on, from 1979 to 1982, she moved to the United States, where she was granted a bachelor of arts from Mississippi State University, in Starkville, MS. She worked as a graphic artist, and designed editorial presentations and publications for the Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) and for the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA). Then, in she moved to Aleppo Syria, where she worked as a curator assistant at the Archeological Museum of Aleppo. Cristina moved back to the United States to work for the Thrifty Nickel Newspaper as a graphic artist, in College Station, Texas. She then became was head of advertising, design, and production from 1995 to 1996. She is currently the manager and owner of Cristina's Web Design company.
