Comparing the effects of different hurricanes

Hurricane Mitch and hurricane Katrina were both formed in America but had completely different impacts. Hurricane Mitch was formed in Hondoras and spread over Honoras, Nicaragua, South Florida and Yucatan Peninsula. Hurricane Katrina was formed in New Orleans and spread over New Orleans, Louisiana, Florida, Bohamas and Mexico.

Hurricane Mitch was formed in Hondoras. It started 27th October 1998 and lasted till 2nd November 1998. It killed 9,214 people, left 9,197 missing, injured 12,842 and 1,491,908 people were evacuated. 466,271 people were moved to shelter. The damage caused costed around $6billion. Hurricane Mitch spread over Hondoras, Nicargua, South Florida and Yucatan Peninsula. The countries affected were LEDC countries (less economic developed country. Hurricane Mitch is less known because of this. As they were an LEDC country they had no warning of Hurricane Mitch coming therefore there was a lot less time to evacuate. Being a poorer country alsothen, after the hurricane, lead to having the money provided to the country from aids from other countries. It was a small but powerful hurricane that killed many in the after mass.

Hurricane Katrina was formedin New Orleans. It first hit 23rd August 2005 and lasted till 30th August 2005. It killed 1,836 and around 705 were left missing. The damage caused costed over $150billion. Hurricane Katrina was spreadover New Orleans, Florida, Bohamas, Louisiana and Mexico. Many people were killed in the after mass. Within eight days of Katrina hitting eighty percentof New Orleans was flooded with some parts under 15 feet/4.5 meters of water. Ninety percent of the residentsof south east Louisiana were evacuated in the most successful evacuation of a major urban area in the nation's history. Despite this, many remained (mainly the elderly and poor). Louisiana and the other countries hit are MEDC countriesthey had more money to replace what was lost in the hurricane. Therefore they were warned of the hurricanes arrival so they had time to evacuate.
