Combat-Helo

Combat-Helo Is a computer game. It was started in around 2002 and was intended to be an 'AH-64D Apache Combat-Helo Mission Simulator', built from the ground up by Richard 'Flexman' Hawley, with help from contributors of models, art assets, an the like.
Flexman was a keen Jane's Longbow 2 player and he made many programs for it, and Combat-Helo would have been the unofficial sequel to Jane's Longbow 2, re-creating much of the original game content but with a new graphics engine capable of higher native screen resolutions than were seen in LB2, the ability to embrace the latest computer systems and graphics card features (of that time) and enhanced aircraft avionics and weapons systems.
Flexman says: "The multitude of LB2 utilities (some of which we're created on the very same keyboard I use to write this) went someway to extend the life of the game. But frustrated, I always wanted to do more than one could achieve by hacking the guts of the sim alone. The only way I was going to get what I wanted was to do it myself. After a year of working, and deciding if I really wanted to do it and while uninstalling yet another bland simulation that didn't run properly; I finally decided that I did."
However, since then the project has gone into decline due to lack of time and resources on the developer's part, which in turn led to interest in the sim closing to all but a dedicated few.

Revival
As of September 2009, the project is back in the developmental stages due to much regenerated interest and curiosity on both the developers part - and the fans. Screenshots have for the first time been shown to the public of what the behind-the-scenes Combat-Helo of old looked like, as well as a video being released showing work in a new game engine, Leadwerks, of the latest technology benefits.
