Colin Martin

Colin Martin is an Irish citizen from Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, who was imprisoned in Thai prisons for the crime of murder.
Autobiography
He is the author of the book Welcome to Hell: One Man's Fight for Life Inside the Bangkok Hilton, about his experiences in the Thai legal system, and in the Thai prison system.
Claims in the book
Martin claims that the events that led to his imprisonment began when he was swindled out of a fortune. He tracked down the man who conned him, and was drawn into a fight. After Martin had been arrested, he was informed that he had stabbed to death, the bodyguard of the man who allegedly had conned Martin. Martin claims that his trial in Thailand was unfair. He served almost eight years in Thai prisons, including Chonburi Prison and Lard Yao Prison. He was part of a prison boxing (Muay Thai) team, that other prisoners had to pay to see fighting (with the proceeds allegedly being pocketed by guards).
He was released from the Lard Yao prison near Bangkok on 18 January 2005 and was deported from Thailand shortly after that date.
He continues to work as a welder.
