Coach Carter Impact Academy

The Coach Carter Impact Academy is an unconventional boarding school that was founded by in 2009 in the small Central Texas town of Marlin. After several postponements, Carter announced again that the academy would finally open in early 2012.
The Coach Carter Impact Academy is situated to educate roughly 150 students, with 65 of those able to live on campus in dormitories. The academy is known to have a strict academic and athletic atmosphere. Carter stated opportunities available for students to partake in at the academy include aviation, entrepreneurship and video game design.
A school day lasts twelve hours, from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. Students take part in classes early in the day while Coach Carter Impact Academy's athletics department has baseball, basketball, football, and soccer teams. The students also are in charge of their own laundry, and run their own campus retail and barber shops.
History
Coach Carter and Marlin
Ken Carter, founder of the academy, had not heard of the town of Marlin before the movie Coach Carter (2005). While in Dallas, Carter is said to have been tired, so he rented a car and drove south on Interstate 35 before going south on Texas State Highway 6 in Waco and drove about another 30 miles when he entered Marlin and fell in love with the town, becoming one of few.
Carter bought a mansion in town and renovated it to become a second home. In 2009, an article in the Waco Tribune-Herald announced that he'd be opening up a boarding school for boys, becoming the Coach Carter Impact Academy, in the fall.
Campus
Location in Marlin
The campus is located in the backstreets of Marlin, with the main office address at 317 Kendrick St. No paved roads with asphalt border the campus, which consists of the former buildings that served students from Marlin I.S.D. in the 1900s. Kendrick and Oakes, two of the streets that border the Coach Carter Impact Academy, are mostly residential streets. Near the school, at the corner of Oakes and Capps is the Marlin Public Library.
Layout
The Coach Carter Impact Academy resides in the former home of the Marlin Middle School. There are currently sixteen dormitories with four beds in each, allowing up to 64 students to live on campus at a time. There is a kitchen, laundry, barber shop, and student store on campus. The barber shop and student store are run by students, plus the kids are responsible for their own laundry and cook their own meals. There are a few acres of flat land for athletic activities and a gym.
