Co-dominion

Co-dominion is where a usually disputed area is administered jointly by two or more governments.
Examples would be the present day Principality of Andorra and the DMZ in Transnistria while historical examples would be Darfur and Sudan in which the British and Egyptians shared rule over Darfur and the Sudan.
Proposed
South Atlantic Co-Dominion would cover the widely scattered South Atlantic islands claimed by both the United Kingdom and Argentina. Included would be; the Falklands, South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands, the South Orkneys and the South Shetlands, and possibly some joint claims to territory in Antarctica. It was proposed in answer to which requested that the United Kingdom enter negotiations with Argentina on the sovereignty of the islands, thereby avoiding possible conflict, largely over possible nearby oil reserves.
Co-Dominion in popular culture
In the sci-fi CoDominium book series by Jerry Pournelle the (CD) is a political alliance and union between the United States of America and a revitalized USSR. This union, achieved in the name of planetary stability, reigns over the Earth for over a hundred years. In that time, it achieves peace of a sort, as well as interstellar colonization, but at the price of a complete halt in both scientific and political evolution.
