Climate change in Baden-Württemberg

Climate change in the German state of Baden-Württemberg affects various environments and industries.
Greenhouse gas emissions
In 2023, greenhouse gas emissions amounted to 62,700,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, whereas in 1990, emissions amounted to 90,800,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Impacts of climate change
Heatwaves
The number of days with an unusually high temperature have increased.
Agriculture
Due to climate change, it has become much easier to grow melons, physalis and kiwi.
Response
Municipalities in Baden-Württemberg have set up drinking water fountains and set up helplines in order to adapt to the increased frequency of drought and heatwaves due to climate change.
Legislation
Climate Protection and Climate Change Adaptation Act of Baden-Württemberg
According to the Council of Experts set up by the state government, Baden-Württemberg would not meet the goals it set. This is partially due to a lack of adoption of electric vehicles.
The municipalities criticised the goals and the lack of guidelines about achieving the goals, stating that the goals were unachievable.
