Christopher N. Merrill (born May 28, 1971) is an American businessman. He is the Co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Harrison Street, an investment management firm focused on alternative real assets. Early life Merrill received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Roanoke College and an MBA from Cass Business School, which is City, University of London's business school. Career Christopher Merrill is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Harrison Street, an investment management firm focused on alternative real assets. Merrill co-founded the company in 2005, along with Chris Galvin, former CEO of Motorola. Since then the company has reached $33 billion in assets under management (AUM) and nearly 200 employees. The investments have housed over 420,000 students, cared for over 48,000 seniors and created over 16,000 jobs through new development. Prior to Harrison Street, Merrill was at Heitman, a real estate investment management company, where he created a real estate fund exclusively targeting the markets of Central Europe. In July 2018, Colliers International Group (CIGI) purchased the interests of the Galvin family and became Harrison Street’s new strategic partner. Merrill retained the role of President and CEO of Harrison Street. Philanthropy Since 2007 Merrill has been involved in the First Tee program of Greater Chicago, a youth development initiative of the World Golf Foundation which offers core Life Skills Experience to participants that can help them grow as individuals and prepare for the future. These skills include honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. Merrill is also a current board member of Chicago's Rush Hospital and former board member of Lurie Children's Hospital. He is also involved as a board member of the Chicago Botanic Gardens. Merrill is also an active angel investor in many early stage companies.
