ChristianCafe.com

ChristianCafe.com is an online dating service for the Christian singles niche. The service was launched in February 1999 by Christian brothers Sam and Philip Moorcroft, of Toronto, Ontario. The entrepreneurs funded development of the site by borrowing $100,000 on low interest credit cards, achieving profitability within two years. Now headquartered in Markham, Ontario, the service remains Christian owned and headed by Sam Moorcroft as President and Pollyanna Moorcroft as CEO.
Market
ChristianCafe.com caters primarily to Christians in the English-speaking Western world, with the majority of members being from the United States of America, followed by Canada, the UK, and Australia. Singles eighteen years of age and older can join the service.
Premise
Singles create their own dating profile, consisting of answers to multiple choice questions and short answer questions and photos. Other members can search profiles based on their own set criteria and then contact members they are interested in.
Pricing Model
ChristianCafe.com operates under the subscription pricing model. New members can try ChristianCafe.com free for seven days. They receive an additional three days upon posting photos of themselves. The free trial includes email communication and participation in Forum discussion. Upon the completion of the free trial, members can choose from various membership plans, ranging from two weeks to one year. With a subscription, members can search and contact an unlimited number of profiles.
Features
Members can find other members in a number of ways. Quick match provides a quick list of members who are in a similar age range and location. Advanced Search allows for members to select from a variety of criteria to narrow down members that meet their criteria. Other ways to meet singles include the Who's Online and New Members search displays.
The service also has a few community-focused features that allow singles to get to know each other. Forums allow for group discussion on various topics. Chat Rooms allow for real time chat in a group setting. The Prayer page is where members can post a prayer and have others join them in prayer.
Points of Differentiation
ChristianCafe.com is Christian-owned, whereas other major competitors in the Christian online dating industry are owned by secular companies Spark Networks and FriendFinder.
The free trial format is also fairly unique as most other subscription-based online dating services charge before members can communicate by email. ChristianCafe.com permits email exchanges throughout the free trial period.
