Chiaha Harvest Festival

The Chiaha Harvest Festival, also known as the Chiaha Harvest Fair, is a community festival in Rome, Georgia with many varieties of exhibits, and foods. People sometimes refer to it as "a toe-tappin', cider-sippin' fun-for-everyone Arts Festival!" The food is some of the best down home-cookin' around. Local Boy Scout troops and the Rome High ROTC help in the set-up and operations of the event for their activities. The Creat-aha Children's Area holds art activities where they create their own piece of art; there for encouraging the children to creatively express themselves. Projects include pottery, painting, and sand art.

History
Chiaha began in 1964 with a few local artists hoping to sell their creations to the public. The first Chiaha had only consisted of 12 artists; although now there are approximately 120 artists that demonstrate their craftsmanship to over 10,000 visitors. The Chiaha has always occurred during the fall, and it will most likely remain to be this way for the rest of the celebrations. After the first festival, the Chiaha Arts and Crafts Guild was found. The Guild is made up of members representing a cross-section of the community that volunteer to make the festival possible. Every year the Chiaha purchases art equipment for local schools and has sponsored numerous art shows.
