April 2 was designated Chemtrail Awareness Day by the Chemtrail Action Network in 2015. The day is intended to raise public awareness of the popular theory of chemtrails and the broad spectrum of public beliefs regarding the reality of chemtrails. The Chemtrail conspiracy theory is a worldwide conspiracy theory about long-lasting trails left by high-flying aircraft. The theory purports that chemicals or biological agents are deliberately being sprayed for nefarious purposes. The theory is generally dismissed by the scientific community, who argue that chemtrails are nothing more than water-based contrails (condensation trails) left by aircraft at high elevations. The proponents of the chemtrail theory have attempted to prove the existence of the phenomenon, but their analysis has been based on scientific misconceptions or has been flawed. Chemtrail Awareness Day is intended to bring the world population into an open dialogue, stimulating public exploration of the various aspects of the chemtrail theory, both pros and cons. The theory has managed to split the general population, being driven by emotional arguments in support of the existence of chemtrails. Further investigation is needed by both sides and scientific rigor applied before a common ground can be achieved.
