Charles L. Worley is a Baptist pastor from North Carolina, who became notorious for a May 2012 sermon, in which he suggested that homosexuals should be penned in large areas surrounded by an electric fence. Reactions The reactions to Worley's sermon were mostly negative, including strong protest from the LGBT community. Over 1,000 people gathered at the Justice Center in Newton, North Carolina to protest. The group Catawba Valley Citizens Against Hate also staged a protest outside Maiden, drawing over 400 protesters. Some defended the sermon. Reverend Billy Ball from Faith Baptist Church in Primrose, Georgia defended Worley's right to free speech, but called Worley's absence at the protests "cowardly".
