Charles J Compton of Essex (Charles James Compton) Charles Compton was the 3rd lord of Compton manor from 1822 - 1852, son of Edward James Compton. Birth • Charles was born on 3rd December 1892 in Essex, • He was the youngest of 4 brothers Early years From a very young age he was brought up in the strictest of ways. He was never aloud to have fun like his brothers Edward, George and Harry and because he was the oldest and was expected to behave as such. He was home schooled and was very rarely allowed out. The family was always secretive and the reason though for this was because they were (according to manuscripts and old folk tails) direct decedents of the first king of England. Which was probably the reason for there immense wealth. Death of his brothers In 1836 whilst on a family outing to the park his brother Edward was hit by a horse and carriage and instantly died. In 1837 he brother George died of a mystery illness that is still not known When Charles was 22 his brother Harry was assassinated it is still unknown who committed the crime and as far as authorities of the time they were unable to comment
Adult Hood He was thought to have 2 sides to him one being a man of softness and kind love towards his family and the other a strict ruthless business man who ruled with an iron fist. He was known by the locals as the man of mystery and the last lucky Compton Children He only had one child called Elizabeth. Elizabeth When Elizabeth was 18 she was walking to the market with her fiancé Robert Wishingdon who was a highly respected business man who was looked upon with much respect and admiration, as the proceeded down the market street Elizabeth came across William (last name not known). He was only a humble fisherman but as soon as their eyes met they fell deeply in love and Elizabeth broke up with Robert to be with the fisherman. When Charles heard news of this he was furious and demanded that she broke up with he fisherman. She then revealed to him that she could not and would not break up with him because she was pregnant with Williams child. She was immediately disowned by her father and told that she could never set foot inside the family home ever again. several days later the house was set ablaze. Mr and Mrs Compton were in the house as it burnt down. Investigations revealed that the blaze was not an accident and that it had been caused by an unknown substance. Elizabeth has not been seen since the fire of 1852. She was the sole inheritor of the family’s fortune which is now worth £400m.
