Charles Faulconer

Charles Faulconer (March 22, 1926 in Monroe, Virginia - December 2, 2018) received the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart for his actions and wounding during the Battle of the Bulge during World War II in 1945. He received the French Legion of Honour in 2016.
As an 18 year old army recruit in Company A, 319 infantry, , he arrived in France in January 1945. On February 8, he occupied a post near the village of where he was wounded by shrapnel in nine places. He had a broken left ankle, damaged right kneecap and shrapnel in middle of his leg and in the tendons in both of his feet. He was initially taken to the 100th American hospital at Bar-le-Duc in France, along with captured German soldiers who were also wounded.
Charles Faulconer was a native of Monroe, Virginia, as was his wife, Louise. They knew each other before the war, and married in 1951. After the war, he returned home and attended Virginia Commercial College in Lynchburg, Virginia. He served as a Postmaster for 26 years.
