Chad Williamson (born on November 16, 1983 in Calgary, Alberta) is a Canadian singer/songwriter known most for his unique pop-flavoured indie rock. He produces musical material as a solo artist and acts as the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for the Calgary rock group Sound Gallery. His solo works are performed entirely by him alone, which demonstrates his proficiency with a wide variety of other instruments.
Background Williamson grew up in Calgary, Alberta and began studying music at the age of 15, while attending a boarding school for boys outside Edmonton, Alberta. Throughout his teenage years, he sang and played guitar for various Calgary punk rock groups that never really amounted to anything, other than a few random shows at run-down community centres across the city. He then began a brief period where he focused on the production of electronic tunes using various pieces of looping software, his now increasing skill as a multi-instrumentalist, and a keen fascination with breaks and deep house. He produced an electronic album called Symphony of Night and sold about thirty copies at his high school. For its construction, he used a copy of Cool Edit 2000. To this day, it remains lost and virtually forgotten.
After graduating high school, he settled into various apartments in Calgary’s downtown core and started forging acoustic music. He also became a student of Mount Royal College to obtain his degree in journalism, photography and applied communications. It was during this time that he molded his first two solo collections, Living Through Fiction and Cerulia, both comprised of an equal blend of original material and cover tracks.
Whilst finishing his third solo album Crystalline during the final months of 2007, he formed the Calgary rock band Sound Gallery with bassist Angus Durrie, keyboardist Andy Chaisson and drummer . He currently performs internationally and within Canada as both a solo musician and as the vocalist and guitarist for Sound Gallery.
