Catincan

Catincan is a crowdfunding service for developing features for open-source software projects. Only developers on existing open-source projects can create funding campaigns; Catincan does not accept campaigns for new project creation, nor does it accept campaigns from people not associated directly with the project. Catincan charges 10% of funds contributed to the campaign; this includes payment processing fees.
History
Started in October 2011 the site opened up to users on February 6, 2013. The first successfully funded feature reached its goal on February 24, 2013.
Model
Catincan is among the new platforms where the public can fund projects, as opposed to entrepreneurs and creators raising funds by traditional investments. It is open to backers and open source developers from around the world. Unlike most crowd funding platforms, Catincan limits who can seek fundraising in an effort to increase the likelihood a project will be completed and minimize incidents of fraud. Features put up for funding are screened and do not go live on the website until it's established that an existing contributor to the open source project is seeking the crowdfunding and pledging to integrate the feature into the project if the goal is reached. Developers have 60 days to reach the funding goal. If by the deadline the goal is not reached, backers are not charged for their pledges and no funds are collected. Funds pledged by backers are processed by Balanced, a Y Combinator-backed company focused on payments for marketplaces and ad networks. If a funding goal is reached, developers located in the U.S. have funds transferred to their specified bank account while developers outside the U.S. can be paid via PayPal or a wire transfer. As of April 22, 2013 payouts in Bitcoin are also an option.
The site does not claim any ownership rights in open source projects listed on the platform or in any work produced by developers using the platform.
