Catherine Damicourt

Catherine Damicourt, a Parisian from the Saint-Etienne-du-Mont neighborhood and the daughter of an upholsterer master, married to Marin Marais, the court musician for Louis XIV, on 21 September 1676 when Marais was 20. According to Titon du Tillet, Marais and Damicourt had 19 children together, one found the trace of twelve children in any case. Most famous amongst them are Vincent Marais, Roland Marais and Marie-Catherine Marais, who married composer Nicolas Bernier. |
