Casting the runes

Casting the runes is the slang term for an IT expert being able to make programs work despite seeming to do the same things as ordinary users. The term alludes to their apparently magical or mysterious ability to get something to work.

One who shows ability at Casting the Runes may be referred to as a "Rune Caster" or "Cyber Shaman" or the more old school, "Guru".
