In October 2015 it was announced she had won preselection as the Greens candidate for Fenner in the 2016 federal election. She was quick to publically refute fitting in to the usual green sterotypes noting “I wear a black suit and heels and drive a car to work. I have never chained myself to a tree or bulldozer, I don’t drink lattes, I have never smoked marijuana and I am not a vegetarian.”
She also claimed she did not hold career ambitions as a politician but rather decided to run out of frustration at refugee laws. <ref name="citynews.com.au"/>
