Carl Maglio

Carl W. Maglio (born November 5, 1956, Madison, Wisconsin) is a successful multi sport athlete from Edgewood High School. In 1975, he was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the June Regular Major League Baseball draft as an infielder. Most notably, he was drafted ahead of National Baseball Hall of Fame outfielder Andre Dawson. Maglio was drafted right from high school and the only Edgewood High School baseball player in its history to be drafted.

Career
Maglio was drafted in 1975. However, he did not play in any major league games. He returned to his home state of Wisconsin where he continued to play Amateur Baseball. He coached football and basketball at Edgewood High School in the 1980's; he was assistant softball coach at Memorial High School from 2004 to 2006; he was softball coach and Board Member for the West Madison Little League. He still remains involved in youth girls’ softball.

Notables
Maglio is the only Edgewood High School baseball player in history to be drafted into Major League Baseball. He was drafted ahead of National Baseball Hall of Fame outfielder Andre Dawson. He was Inducted into the Edgewood Athletic Association Hall of Fame on September 25, 2008. Coach Chris Zwettler said “When you build a list of top ‘three sport’ athletes who attended Edgewood, Carl would have to be on that list." He was a true leader in his class of 1975, a class that had an excellent year in athletics!”
