Business Gold Coast
Business Gold Coast (BusinessGC) is the marketing brand of the Economic Development Branch of the Gold Coast City Council. BusinessGC is responsible for broadening the economic base of Gold Coast, Queensland through investment attraction strategies and industry development initiatives, undertaken in collaboration with other levels of government.
Economic Development Strategy
Gold Coast City Council's Economic Development Strategy aims to:
*create the conditions necessary for regional economic success including a highly skilled and educated community, strong international connections, infrastructure that meets the needs of industry, and an entrepreneurial culture focused on innovation.
*strengthen industries with good prospects for growth, sustainability and success in the global economy.
*create and sustain employment opportunities to meet the needs of industry and the needs of individuals for well-paid, fulfilling work.
The Economic Development Strategy drives the work of the Economic Development Branch and the BusinessGC Advisory Board.
Industry Areas BusinessGC has identified nine industries critical to the competitiveness of the Gold Coast economy:

These industries have been identified as providing long term sustainabilty and diversity to the city's economic and cultural development. Ongoing development of these industry sectors drives the ongoing Economic Development program.
BusinessGC Advisory Board The BusinessGC Advisory Board (BGCAB) works with key business development organisations throughout the city to strengthen and diversify the Gold Coast's economic base and encourage national and international business investment. There are currently 23 BGCAB members who represent the key industry bodies in the city from business, industry, academia and government.

BGCAB was established in 1996 (formerly Regional Economic Development Advisory Board) and since that time has played a pivotal role in the economic agenda and future direction of Gold Coast City.
Sister Cities Gold Coast, Queensland has a long established international profile which began with the growth in international tourism in the 1960’s. The steady arrival of overseas immigrants has strengthened the City’s international links. BusinessGC is responsible for deriving economic and cultural benefits from the Gold Coast's Sister City relationships and international connections.
Gold Coast City has 12 Sister City relationships and one friendship agreement.

Gold Coast City has Statement of Intents (SOI) with the following cities. Statement of Intents are less formal agreements than Sister City agreements. * Jiangmen, China * Maoming, China
Key Initiatives
*Pacific Innovation Corridor The Pacific Innovation Corridor (PIC) is one of Gold Coast City Council’s signature economic development projects. The Pacific Innovation Corridor centres represent, or may in the future represent, a substantial aggregation of economic activity.
*Film Gold Coast The film industry within Gold Coast City pioneered international film production in Australia in 1980 and accounts for 75% of all Queensland film production.
Film Gold Coast is committed to driving film investment to the city. Film Gold Coast is a one-stop shop for national and international film productions and provides local knowledge and information on locations, maps, facilities and services. *Nakheel partnership BusinessGC facilitated an agreement between the Gold Coast City Council and Nakheel, to foster closer economic links. The agreement will promote cooperation between the Gold Coast City Council and Nakheel through the exchange of research and business information, bilateral official and business missions and identification of major projects.
