Building services architect

Building Services Architect is a professional engineer, specialising in building services, who is appointed to manage the design process of the integration of building services signals, communications, measurement and controls on a common communications infrastructure.
Traditionally the disciplines of electrical, mechanical, fire, hydraulics, communications, security and vertical transportation are designed in "silos" by dedicated services engineers. This results in the duplication of infrastructure, networks and associated cabling.
The building services architect takes on the role of working across all disciplines, planning communications between services on a common network thus saving both infrastructure and lifecycle costs. Management of building services can thus be carried out via a common network, eliminating “silos” and further simplifying the controls, WAGES metering and energy management required in modern commercial, retail, industrial and healthcare projects.
