Brian Penny (born November 22, 1980), also known as Versability, is an American blogger and activist. His blogs are centered on current events, politics and activism in which he gives his opinion, usually presented in an ironic manner. Penny started both his whistleblower blog as well as a personal blog in 2011. His work has been utilized by all 50 state Attorney's General in prosecuting the major US banks for improper foreclosure. Personal life Penny was born November 22, 1980, in Augsburg, Germany. He was a student at Arizona State University, before dropping out to join the Army. After his brief military stint, Penny entered civilian life in the insurance and mortgage industry. Banking Career and Whistleblowing Penny started his career with Countrywide Financial in 2005, where he spent 6 years working in various capacities within their Tracking Operations group. He then began working for Bank of America after they purchased the struggling mortgage giant in 2008 after widespread fraud was discovered throughout the mortgage industry, where he continued servicing loans for GMAC, Lehman Brothers, IndyMac, Wells Fargo, and other auto and mortgage companies, including the Bank of America and Countrywide portfolios themselves. During his tenure, he witnessed the collapse of Lehman Brothers, and the Federal takeover of IndyMac. In December 2010, after years of attempting to fix the rampant mortgage and insurance fraud perpetrated by banking executives, Penny quit his job and turned to activist group Anonymous to assist in bringing necessary media attention to the role of the major US banks in creating the 2008 economic collapse. The project then led him to Attorney General Tom Horne, where he provided information which assisted in pulling the fight against faulty foreclosure practices from Federal court to State court. Twitter Penny has now taken to Twitter, utilizing social media to continue promoting Anonymous ground operations. He is a frequent contributor, both behind the scenes and public projects, in raising awareness and support for Anonymous-sponsored events, such as the SF BART protests and Occupy Wall Street. Penny is known on Twitter via his online handle @Versability, and is gaining popularity due to his usage of irony and metaphors in his constant rants about current socioeconomic issues and trends within mass and alternative media. In addition to his activism, he is currently working on a project to have a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor named after him, called Un-Fortune-Nut (chocolate covered fortune cookies and a peanut butter swirl in vanilla ice cream) based on his experiences in the financial industry.
