Bom Hyon Sunim (born Gabriele Rose) is an Australian bhikkhuni nun in the Korean Zen tradition. She has been pivotal in setting up Korean Zen Buddist centres across Australia. Education Sunim is a postgraduate Fellow of the Peace and Confict Resolution studies program at Chulalaongkorn University, Thailand. Career Sunim returned to Australia from Korea in 2010. She established the Buddhist Spiritual Care program for the Buddhist Council Victoria. She was appointed to the Religious Advisory committee of the Australian Defence Forces in 2012. She notes that chaplaincy is “intentionally about ‘spiritual’ rather than religious ministry.” Sunim describes spirituality as “the self: in-relationahip with self, others, nature, environment, universe and the transcendent.” At this time she also managed the BodhiAhm Meditation Centre in Melbourne. In 2018, she and Tina Ng founded an urban nuns residence to support Buddhist nuns called Therimettarama. It is now known as Mettarama Nun’s Monastery. Sunim has used her knowledge of grief and loss in presentations for Metta Centre. Metta Centre is buddhist centre situated in south-western Sydney that presents classes and courses on buddhist teachings. Sunim was the resident teacher of the Bodhi Ahm Buddhist Centre. She was a founder of the Healthcare Chaplaincy program for the Buddhist Council. Sunim has been featured on the Humanistic Buddhism Centre's series on Ageing, Illness, Dying and Death. The Humanistic Buddhism Centre is situated within the Nan Tien Institute of Higher Education, Woolongong, Australia. Sunim is completing a doctorate into the culture and practice of chaplaincy in Australian universities. She is particularly interested in the perspectives of people in the 18-35 age demographic.<ref name=":0" />
