Block Dude is the name of a calculator game developed by Detached Solutions and programmed by Brandon Sterner. Block Dude is a remake of Block Man which was created by Larry Murk at Stanford University and then sold through Soleau Software for the PC. The game is a side-scroller logic puzzle in which the player must use a small character known as "Block Dude" to move blocks in a way that he can climb over bricks, walk across holes, and make it to the door at the end of the level. The game is divided into eleven levels, each sequentially rising in difficulty. Final levels are quite complex. Players can access levels by typing in passwords at the start menu. Gameplay The gameplay of Block Dude is simple: Block Dude must move blocks to climb towers and fill in holes to reach the door at the end of each level. However, if the player accidentally gets stuck, then the player must start over from the beginning. Each level is more complex than the preceding level. Each level contains an arrangement of bricks and blocks. Bricks are the only immoveable obstacle. They form the basic outline of the level's area, creating barriers and "holes" that restrict movement. Movable blocks are scattered within the level and are sometimes stacked up to make towers. The "block dude" can carry one block on top of his head at a time. The player uses these blocks to create staircases or fill in holes to move around the level. It is only possible to climb up on a surface that is no higher than one block or brick unit than the current surface on which the block dude is currently standing. Blocks generally rest on top of brick structures or other blocks. The only exception occurs in the last level, where some blocks initially float around in the air. Once the floating bricks are lifted, they will obey standard gravity rules after being released.
