Blank Noize

Blank Noize is an indy Hindi rock Band from New Delhi, India. They have played alongside artists like JAL, Atif Aslam, Bombay Vikings, Euphoria, Strings, Parikrama etc. They are also the first band in India who made their album while all of the members were still going to high school. Their first album sold over 2000 copies which is the largest number of sales ever by any independent band in India (Hindi Rock)

More about the band

Blank Noize was built by unknown forces in April 2006 when 5 cool people who went to the same school met each other and shared a similar interest in life. Even after they all passed out from school, they stayed together, and still continue to do what they do best.

This noize can be dated back to their very first gig (April 2006), the highly anticipated show at home turf (Modern School BK) with the famous pakistani rock band ’JAL’. "It was a make it or break it situation, as first gigs always tend to be a bit messy" says Kashif Iqbal (Vocalist). Over 5000 people witnessed the show, and the band ’JAL’ themselves congratulated Blank Noize for a scintillating performance. "It was our first gig, and over 5000 people turned up, it lifted our confidence, but at the same time, our hearts were in our mouth" says Vidit Garg (Drummer).

Ever since then, there has been no looking back for Blank Noize, as the band has been playing live shows regularily and have played with acts like Euphoria, Strings, Jal, Atif Aslam, Bombay Vikings, Junoon (Salman Ahmad) and many more. "These shows have just given us experience, more than anything else. Thats the only way a band can learn, and get better." says Samrat Goyal (Bassist)

Blank Noize has also reserved their place in the records by being the first ever independent hindi rock band to sell over 2000 copies in the first two months of their first album release. "We’ve spent a lot of time practicing and improvising on our songs, and I think that’s the thing that helps us the most when we’re recording in the studio" says Nikhil Malik Guitarist/Recordist/Mixing)

The band is linked to many genres, and various playing styles. Primarily, the band plays alternative rock/fusion."We play almost everything. We initially covered bands, and later switched onto creating original music. We listen to a lot of stuff, and I think that just contributes to what we create." says Kartike Jain (Guitarist). "We felt the lack of bands that are bilingual, therefore our songs are both in english and hindi" adds Kashif, who also writes lyrics for the band.

The band has been a regular part of the live circuit, has won a lot of school and college competitions in the past and has played live on air on radio channels 98.3 fm and 102.6 fm, and has been featured on NDTV, as well as covered by various newspapers across different cities, and has been regularily been playing in college fests and social gatherings.

Discography

Blank Noize's first recorded song was a cover of pakistan's rock band Junoon, "Kyun Pareshan", followed by their self composed song "Scary Tales". After the success of both these songs, the band came up with a single "Nazar" which became popular among school and college going kids. All these songs were recorded in Nikhil's home studio.

Blank Noize released their debut 'self titled' album on 20th October, 2007, which included the hit singles 'Nazar' and 'Teri Yaad'. Both the instrumentals 'Morning Hours' and 'The Dead End' acquired critical acclaim. The album was recorded/mixed and mastered by Nikhil Malik.

2nd Album

Currently, the band is working on its second untitled album, which is due in April 2008. More than 10 songs have been recorded, and the album is said to be in its mixing stages."We’ve played with our sound a lot, and now it just sounds powerful, mellow and sweet, all at the same time" says Ankit Malik (DJ UpsideDown, who not only remixes the tracks for the band, but is also the executive producer of the album)
