Blair Miller

Blair Miller was WSOC’s (Channel 9) the main co-anchor for the last five years, left Charlotte for the Fox affiliate in Boston where he worked as a reporter and weekend anchor, “It seems like a wonderful place,” Miller said Friday.
“I’ve had interest in moving on to a bigger city and this worked out,” he said. “It’s also a hard decision because Charlotte and Channel 9 have been so good to me.”
Original plan was to be teacher
Miller, 40, of Cornelius, had planned to become a teacher, but a student teaching gig while attending Bowling Green State University in Ohio changed his career plans - he realized he wasn’t cut out for the classroom.
So Miller, who was born in Columbia and grew up in Ohio, started working for the campus television station and found he liked the news business.
Miller has scored a number of exclusives in Charlotte, including breaking the story that Mayor Anthony Foxx would not run for re-election, and interviewing President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in the 2012 election cycle.
He was the first reporter to get an interview with Nicole Gross, the Charlotte woman maimed in the Boston Marathon bombing. She chose Miller over offers from “Good Morning America” and CNN.
Plays civic role with foundation
Miller earned regional Emmys in 2014 and 2015 and was named 2013 Anchor of the Year by the N.C. Association of Broadcasters.
“We are glad to have Blair expand his role in our company and provide strong investigative reports to the viewers in the Boston area,” Joe Pomilla, WSOC’s general manager, said in a statement.
Miller is on the board for the Ryan Newman Foundation’s Rescue Ranch in Statesville, which works to improve the lives of animals and educate the public.
His last day was at WSOC-TV Sept. 4.<ref name=observer/>
