Black Jackets Company (BJCo) founded in 1995 in Brussels, (Belgium) is an International Society for Contemporary Arts. The Company mainly supports the post-scolopéndric art movement. Black Jackets Company is also the generic name for all activities of BJCo- dependent of BJCo label. BJCo. Black Jackets Company (1995-) After organising some meetings on musical composition in Brussels since 1995, young composers less than 30-year-old, Pierre Kolp (Belgium), Juan Carlos Tolosa (Argentina), and Francis Ubertelli (Canada), later with participation of David Nuñez (Venezuela), founds Black Jackets Company (BJCo) . The name comes from two facts: first, usually, classical musicians always play with Black Jackets (and by opposition pop musicians, don't) and second, the initials Co- can have many meanings (Corporation, Company, Collective, Collections, Copyright, Composers, …). The BJCo- concept implies to open musical acts to all creative domains, that is the Company. Mixing cinema (Giovanni Cioni), danse (Barbara Manzetti, Marian del Valle, Olga De Soto), theatre (Sofie Kokaj), scenography Colin Legras, Thibaut Vancraenenbroeck and, of course, the collective, BJCo- cools Contemporary Arts Atmosphere on Brussels area. BJCo- Black Jackets Co- mposers (1996-) The first performance of Black Jackets Company took place in Brussels, at Le Plateau 25 October 1996. In 1998, the composers found the post-scolopéndric movement. This movement mainly growths in Canada and South America. Black Jackets Co- llective (1996-2005) Also known as Black Jackets Ensemble In 1997, after the success of their first concert Black Jackets Co-mposers decide to manage a small group of talented young musicians formed in the Belgian Conservatories, the Black Jackets Co-llectif, also known as Black Jackets Ensemble. Violinist David Nuñez, guitarist Tom Pauwels, clarinettist Benjamin Dieltjens, pianist Kim Vandembrempt, recorder Suzanne Fröhlig and sound engineer Yannick Willox formed the nucleus of Black Jackets Ensemble. One characteristic of this ensemble, in the general spirit of BJCo is to be open to local young musicians during tours. The ensemble plays with Belgian musicians Stephane Ginsburgh, Georges van Damme, Igor Semenov and with foreign musician André Ristic Black Jackets Co- pyright (1996-) Called Black Jackets Editions since 1998 In the birth of BJCo, the first common act of the founders is to write articles on their own publication Les manifestes éthyliques (Ethylic Manifests). Printed by BJCo-pyright, 50 copies for each specimen in folio in quatro, constitute a collection counted 12 numbers. These manifests were given to the audience during Black Jackets performances, or during shows of friend partners. Their content is very hermetic and strange and, if the Ethylic Manifests give the program of the concert, they succeed to give moods and spirit to the program. The manifests idea is to take out of their contexts commonplace conversations, advertising spots, expressions, sentences, etc. The series stops in 1998 with the twelfth number: Bye, Bye, Richelieu, the only inside the series to be a book (in A4-size, 12 pages) that assume another (wrong) but totally realist story of Cardinal Richelieu. Since 1998 another activity of Black Jackets Co-pyright is to publish the music of composers (those who found the Company and those whom the works were created by Black Jackets Ensemble). Nevertheless, in the scores, the copyright always indicated is Black Jackets Editions.
