Billy Coyle is the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives in Oklahoma's 5th congressional district. Incumbent Rep. Mary Fallin (R) is retiring from the House to run for Governor of Oklahoma. Coyle defeated former college professor Tom Guild in the July 27 primary election and will face Republican James Lankford in the general election. Background Coyle was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1974. After attending elementary and middle school in Oklahoma City, he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1993. Following high school graduation, Coyle enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He remained in the Marine Corps Reserves while attending college and was honorably discharged in 2001 at the rank of E-5, Sergeant. He holds a BS from Florida State University and a JD from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. 2010 candidacy Coyle announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination on April 6, 2010. This is the first time Coyle has sought political office. He lists job creation, veterans issues and energy - including natural gas and wind power - among his top legislative priorities.
