Ben Alavie

Ben Alavie (born January 31, 1990) is a Canadian amateur minor league ice hockey player for the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League. He is a graduate of the Richmond Hill Stars AAA Hockey Organization.
Aurora Tigers
During the 2006-07 season, Alavie would dress for 10 games with the Aurora Tigers Jr. A squad. He would tally 1 assist and 10 penalty minutes. His time with the Aurora Tigers would be short before being returned to his AAA team, the Richmond Hill Stars.
Richmond Hill Stars
Alavie, a native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, began playing hockey in Newmarket at the age of 5. He then moved to the York Simcoe AAA Program at the age of 8. His family would move to Richmond Hill the next year so he could further his hockey development. Alavie would spend the rest of his minor hockey days playing in the Richmond Hill Hockey Association. During the 2006-07 campaign, Alavie would have a short stint with the Aurora Tigers, but spent the majority of the year playing for the Richmond Hill Stars AAA Hockey club. He would dress for 54 games with the Midget squad scoring, 14 goals and 35 assists for 49 points. He would also rack up 64 penalty minutes. Alavie would be a member of many teams that won Ontario Minor Hockey Association medals. His peewee team in Richmond Hill was a finalist for the Ontario Hockey Federation title.
Brampton Battalion
After being drafted by the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League in the 4th round, 74th overall in the 2006 OHL Draft, Alavie would make his Junior debut on October 5, 2007 against the Ottawa 67's. He left his mark in his 1st game with Battalion, scoring his first career OHL goal the same game. Throughout the 2007-08 campaign, Alavie would score 1 goal and 9 assists for 10 points.
Alavie would spend the 2008-09 season with the Battalion again finishing with 1 goal and 13 assists. After winning the Eastern Conference Championship, the Battalion would advance to the Ontario Hockey League Championship, but would be defeated by the Memorial Cup winning, Windsor Spitfires.
Alavie was not chosen at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Though Alavie is still eligible for the 2010 draft, he cannot be selected in the first 3 rounds.
Personal
Alavie is in his second year of university at York University. Reza Alavie, his father, is a professor at Seneca College. He received an award from the Ontario Government and has been on Toronto radio stations. His mother, Diane, and sister, Elyse, live in King City where his mother is a pharmacist and his sister attends St. Thomas of Villanova College. Ben played competitive sports in both Oakridge and Newmarket and lists Mats Sundin as his favourite hockey player.
