Becca Rice

Becca Rice (singer, songwriter)
Becca Rice is a singer-songwriter from Rock Island, Illinois. Her self-titled debut EP was released in 2008 from Backporch Revolution Records based in New Orleans. Born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota, Becca Rice played in several Fargo bands in the 1990s including Black Eyed Susan and The Bulletin Board of Atomic Scientists. The noted music journalist and pop culture author Chuck Klosterman interviewed her as a member of Black Eyed Susan in his first job as a music reviewer for the Fargo Forum newspaper.
The songs on her self-titled debut EP were recorded with a single microphone on a digital four-track recorder over the period of two years while Rice was living in County Clare, Ireland and in Durham, England. She made use of instruments that she was able to bring with her on her travels, specifically, a guitar and accordion. She also made use of several pianos when they were available to her as she moved from one place to another. Becca Rice's style has been described as indie "psych-folk" due to the acoustic instrumentation coupled with evocative multilayered vocal harmonies which are processed with heavy reverb. The recording style is considered "lo-fi", or low fidelity, because of the unfiltered quality of the audio.
