BBMMRPG

BBMMRPG (Browser-Based Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) is a hybrid of the MMORPG genre and the PBBG game format.
MMORPG is a genre of computer role-playing games in which a large number (often hundreds or thousands) of players interact simultaneously with one another within a virtual game world.
A persistent browser-based game (PBBG) is a computer game platform that is both browser-based (accessed and played over the Internet only through a web browser) and persistent (able to progress with successive playing sessions).
Unlike most MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft etc., BBMMRPG are often 2D or even text based. The sub-genre often combines elements of role-playing games, hack and slash, interactive fiction, and online chat. Players can read descriptions of rooms, objects, other players, non-player characters, and actions performed in the virtual world. Players interact with each other and the world by typing commands that resemble a natural language.
MMORPGs can enable players to cooperate and compete with each other on a large scale, and sometimes to interact meaningfully with people around the world. The roleplaying and the progression of the player character are also of key importance to the game.
Like MUDs most BBMMRPG are run as hobbies and are free to players; some may accept donations or allow players to purchase virtual items, while others charge a monthly subscription fee
