Bayle Domon

Bayle Domon is a character in American author Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.
Described as a stocky man with long hair that falls to his thick shoulders and a beard that leaves his upper lip bare and frames a round face. "Round but not soft." He is an Illianer and shows it by his unusual facial hair and the way he speaks (using such distinctive phrases as "I do be well.").
We first meet Domon in The Eye of the World when he helps , Mat, and Thom escape Trollocs near Shadar Logoth. He takes them as paying passengers on his river boat Spray as far as Whitebridge. is surprised that, although he, Mat, and Thom jump onto Domon's river craft with Shadowspawn hot on their heels, Domon seems to believe that the Trollocs are after him.
In the second volume of The Wheel of Time, The Great Hunt, we find out why. Domon is an accomplished sailor, and enjoys collecting old things and seeing the sights of the world. He did a roaring trade along the rivers, until - in Maradon - he bought one of the seals to the Dark One's prison. Subsequently, he was chased by Shadowspawn and Darkfriends all the way to Illian, so the attack brought on by and his companions was just more of the same thing for poor Bayle.
After being captured by the Seanchan, he was forced to hand the Seal over to High Lord Turak.
As a captain, Bayle is a formidable employer, but he makes good profits and shares them with his crew. He prefers to do all the difficult sailing maneuvers by himself, although he is confident rather than arrogant. He is loyal, helping out the needy when he can; for example, he arranged passage for , Min, and Elayne, and later on helps them in Tanchico as well.
After entering the Panarch's Palace in Tanchico and successfully acquiring the Seal and the Sad Bracelets, he had planned to move his fleet away to a new location, and even managed to leave with Egeanin, seeking to drop the male a'dam into the ocean near the Aile Somera. However, he was forced to surrender the a'dam to a Seanchan vessel.
Following the capture of the Spray and its contents, Egeanin was effectively promoted to Captain of the Green. Bayle, however, was taken prisoner and sold as da'covale (slave). Fortunately, Egeanin managed to purchase him; although, this made him so'jhin (servant slave to the upper class), to which he has since had trouble adapting.
Bayle Domon introduced Mat to Egeanin; and after she agreed to join him in escaping - and also provide him with three sul'dam - Domon, Egeanin, and Mat escaped Ebou Dar and the Seekers by traveling with Valan Luca's "circus like" show. Bayle shaved his head to avoid notice.
In Knife of Dreams he and Egeanin (now calling herself Leilwin Shipless) were married.
