Basilia Sayoto

Basilia Alcantara Sayoto-Barzaga, of Dasmariñas, Cavite, Philippines, was also known as Kapitana Ilyang during Revolutionary times against Spain and the seven-year Filipino resistance against the United States of America in the early 20th Century. Basilia was married to the first Judge of Dasmariñas, Marcelino Barzaga. Although little is known about her father, Basilia's mother was Doña Eusebia Alcantara, the only citizen of Dasmariñas entombed in the town's parish church, The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. It is said that this honor was given to Eusebia being the donor of the piece of land where the parish church now stands although this is disputed today by the Catholic Church. Basilia was also the older sister of Isabel who was married to Placido N. Campos, a revolutionary and town leader during that time (Placido became the grandfather of National Scientist, Dr. Paulo C. Campos). Basilia and Marcelino's children were Maria Maria (married to Tomas Sinigayan), Maria Amada (married to Felix Bautista) and Maria Margarita (married to Apolonio Sayuno).
